Hyderabad Real Estate News

BANGALORE, India — Bartonics India Ltd. is to set up a manufacturing plant in Hyderabad in southern India to make chips for smart cards in a pact with Watchdata Technologies Ltd., Singapore, a subsidiary of Beijing-based Watchdata, one of China's first developers of a proprietary smart card operating system. Bartronics currently sources the chips from Watchdata, according to a Friday (Nov. 10) report in The Economic Times. The Indian firm is into the business of smart cards, RFID cards, scanners and other identification and access related products. "Now that we have tied up with Watchdata for sourcing and marketing smart card-based products in India and neighboring countries, we will look at backward integration. The step forward in this would be the manufacturing of our own chips," The Economic Times report quoted Bartronics managing director and CEO, Sudhir Rao, as saying. The chip plant would cost up to $40 million to $50 million, funded through a mix of loans and equity. It is expected to start commercial operations in 2008, and will employ about a hundred additional staff, the report added.
