GO Ms No.274, expanding the jurisdiction of HUDA

Government of Andhra Pradesh has issued a GO Ms No.274 dated April 20, 2007 to expand the jurisdiction of HUDA (Hyderabad Urban Development Authority) till such time the HMDA was constituted. Accordingly, the jurisdiction was expanded from the existing 2,300 sq. km area to 6,876 sq. km. Additional 600 villages were added to the jurisdiction. Addressing a press conference at secretariat here today, Minister for information and public relations and district incharge Minister Mr. Mohd. Ali Shabbir along with Minister for IT, mines and geology Mrs. P. Sabitha Reddy informed that the Government would prepare a Master Plan for the area by engaging services of reputed consultants. The proposed Master Plan for HMDA would be completed within a year. Besides, draft has been made ready to formulate the Hyderabad Metropolitan Act, and would be implemented by an Ordinance and would go for ratification in the next Assembly session. The Chief Minister would be the Chairman of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority, he added. After creation of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) recently, the State Government has now decided to set up Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) for better service delivery and coordination among various agencies concerned. It would shortly issue an Ordinance followed by Legislation 'Hyderabad Metropolitan Act' for the purpose. The Minister claimed that expansion of jurisdiction of HUDA (up to 6,876 sq. km) would place the Hyderabad city in the third place in the country next only to Delhi (area stands at 30,000 sq. km) and Bangalore (8,000 sq. km). In future extensive developmental activity and real estate projects would come up in areas outside the present HUDA jurisdiction. Population would increase from the present 80 lakhs to one crore after expansion of jurisdiction. In all, about 54 mandals in five districts (Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Medak, Mahabubnagar and Nalgonda) would be covered in the new jurisdiction. The Authority would now have 1003 villages as against 403 villages existing under the present four Urban Development Authorities i.e. HUDA, Cyberabad Development Authority (CDA), Hyderabad Airport Development Authority (HADA) and Buddha Purnima Project Authority (BPPA). Quli Qutub Shah UDA would also come under the jurisdiction, he added. Principal Secretary to municipal administration and urban development Mr. S.P. Singh said so far there was no Master Plan for the vast areas covered under four UDAs. The Authority would now prepare a Master Plan for the expanded areas. The entire metro region would be developed in a balanced manner. The under implementation Outer Ring Road (ORR) project would open up vast areas for future development. The expanded jurisdiction would enable planned development for such areas, he claimed. HUDA Chairman Mr. D. Sudheer Reddy and Vice-Chairman and MD Mr. Jayesh Ranjan were also present.
